A respiratory mask only protects you if it fits your face correctly. Even the best protection can provide a false sense of security if it does not seal properly against the wearer's face.
At Stennevad, we have been carrying out quantitative FIT-TESTs for customers for a while - and we are fully trained and certified to conduct testing using the Quantifit2 system. The test is performed by a competent professional and provides documented proof that your respirator fits correctly.
Using Quantifit2 and the Controlled Negative Pressure (CNP) method, we can test masks from manufacturers including Sundström, STS, CleanAir and RSG, with the possibility of testing additional brands and models.

What is a FIT-TEST?
A FIT-TEST is a controlled and standardised procedure that verifies whether a tight-fitting respirator provides an effective seal against the wearer's face. The test delivers a clear pass/fail result and must be carried out by a suitably trained and competent person.
FIT-TESTs should be repeated at regular intervals and whenever facial characteristics change, for example following significant weight changes, dental work or facial surgery.
How Does a FIT-TEST Work?
Close-fitting respiratory protective equipment relies on a proper seal between the mask and the user's face. A FIT-TEST confirms whether that seal is sufficient to provide the expected level of protection.
Qualitative Testing
Qualitative fit testing provides a pass/fail result based on the wearer's ability to detect a sweet or bitter aerosol introduced into a test hood. Because it relies on human perception, it is considered a subjective method.
Quantitative Testing
Quantitative fit testing uses specialised equipment to provide objective measurements and a numerical fit factor. Two methods are commonly used:
Ambient Particle Counting (APC)
Controlled Negative Pressure (CNP)
At Stennevad, we use the Quantifit2 system, which applies the CNP method. This technology is independent of filter efficiency and breathing patterns, providing a fast, accurate and highly repeatable assessment of mask fit.
FIT-TEST Exercises
During the test, the wearer performs a series of exercises designed to simulate normal workplace movements:
- Normal breathing
- Deep breathing
- Turning the head from side to side
- Moving the head up and down
- Speaking or reading aloud
- Bending forward
- Normal breathing again
If the wearer successfully completes the test, the respirator has been shown to provide an adequate seal for their facial characteristics. However, users should always carry out a fit check each time the respirator is donned before entering a hazardous area.
